New work currently under construction CHAINED LIBRARY "This may not be art but is a way of creating it"  Altered books are just books that have been rescued from charity shops, or skips etc., and put to a new use. I don't feel bad about doing this as it gives the books a new life. My local Oxfam book shop told me they send over 90 crates of donated books for pulping each week. These will live a little longer I hope. Sometimes the book itself gives me an idea, and sometimes I just use one I like the look of as a sketchbook. I have a theme in each one, and the idea is to fill it with things that are not laboured over but come to mind instantly. There is a lot of doodling and free flow of ideas. If something doesn't make me happy, I keep going over it until it does. You can see the books have been painted to match and will be held in the book rack with chains, much like a chained library. This page is from the "Angst" book. (each book has a dictionary definition on the front cover for the contents.)  |
