These 2 quilts look great individually but also as a pair and were designed to hang with a small gap – about 4 inches – inbetween. If you would like to buy both, please get in touch for a discount!
The first quilt is titled “Colour Is Not The Problem,” and the second, “Spread the Love, Show Compassion.” Both pieces draw inspiration from the dolls in the Leamington Art Gallery and Museum’s collections, and although the titles are not direct quotes from Benjamin Zephaniah, they were inspired by him. The dolls and the quilts will be on display in the gallery from Jan to May 2025.
With these quilts, I aim to express that harmony can be achieved despite our differences, and that fostering greater understanding and empathy towards one another is essential. The turmoil in the world today is hard to ignore, and I hope these pieces reflect a desire for more compassion.
I purposefully stepped out of my comfort zone for these works, selecting colours and patterns far removed from my usual palette. The combination of lime greens, magentas, and oranges on a deep red background felt unconventional at first, but my hope was to create a sense of balance and unity amidst the contrast.
