Starting Windrush 4 – George Saunders

Back to Backs Birmingham.

George came to Birmingham from St Kitts in the West Indies in 1958. He was a tailor and opened a shop in Hurst Street in 1974 where he had a successful business in the Back to Backs (owned by The National Trust) and you can see his workshop today including pattern pieces and sewing machines. (He made breeches for the Queen’s Horse Guards for example). He sadly died in 2015. My quilt will reflect his life as much as I can, and will have Georges own words on the background.
